We do have a will-call option where customers contact us when they are running low on fuel. We recommend calling to schedule your next delivery when your tank is about 30% full.
If you don’t want to have to check your tank levels and contact us to place an order you can enroll in our free automatic delivery option where we use a computerized system to track your fuel levels based on your usage history and weather conditions. We then schedule a delivery accordingly.
Associating heating oil with the winter makes sense considering that is when it is used frequently. However, the ideal time to order your heating oil is actually the spring and summer. The fuel is usually cheaper during the warmer months and it is easier to get since the general demand is lower. This also eliminates any worry about not having enough by the time the cold weather rolls around.
There are a few reasons why you want to avoid a fuel run-out.
The first and obvious one is that you are going to be quite cold and uncomfortable if you run out of heating oil in the winter. You’ll be without heat! In fact, your furnace will actually shut off entirely to protect itself from damage.
As if that isn’t bad enough running out of heating oil is also not good for your home’s heating system. You put your system at risk of clogs, sediment buildups, bacterial growth, rust and corrosion. It is definitely better to avoid all of this!
